26 July 2004 – The gradual process of reform at the Press Complaints Commission continues. Complainants now have TWO months in which to register their complaint about items published in newspapers and magazines and their online editions (See http://www.pcc.org.uk/complaint/how_complaint.htm). And the PCC has remonstrated with an editor for unnecessary delays in responding to complainants.
These are among the many procedural reforms suggested in the MediaWise Report Satisfaction Guaranteed? Press complaints systems under scrutiny published in June (available from pw@presswise.org.uk price £16.30 inc p&p).
The PCC has agreed to meet with MediaWise in the autumn to discuss the report findings, and we shall continue to monitor progress towards a more open and accountable regulatory system.
